Nut, macadamia

Light brown, smooth, spherical nut, with a very hard, smooth brown shell, covered with either a smooth or a slightly rough brown husk.

The majority of nutrients including proximates, minerals, vitamins and fatty acids were derived from a composite of 6 samples (all unbranded and sold loose) of raw macadamia nuts purchased from supermarkets in SA in 1989 (AGAL, 1990). Trace metals (As, Cd, Hg and Pb) were derived from a composite of 9 samples purchased nationally during 3 seasons in 1996 (AMBS, 1996). Cholesterol and retinol were imputed zero. Folate was borrowed from the USDA, record 12131.
