Soup, with croutons, prepared from dry mix with water
Soup mix (beef, chicken, vegetable) prepared from dry mix with boiling water according to packet instructions. Typical ingredients include thickener (maize starch), maltodextrin, vegetable protein, chicken, beef extract, vegetable extract, vegetable fat, milk solids not fat, spices, vegetable gum, colour and flavour.
Proximates, minerals, vitamins and fatty acids were derived from a composite of 6 samples (2x vegetable and beef, 2x hearty chicken and 2x creamed vegetables) of Continental brand soup with croutons purchased from Adelaide supermarkets in 1990 (AGAL, 1990). The concentrated samples were diluted by addition of boiling water and stirring as per label directions.
