Tea, regular, brewed from leaf or teabags, without milk

Beverage prepared by brewing black tea leaves (dried, fermented leaves of Chrysanthemum species) in hot water, either as loose tea leaves or encased in porous teabags. 15g tea leaves in 1L of water. Tea is not decaffeinated or flavoured. Does not contain added milk or sugar.

Moisture, protein, ash and most minerals (Ca, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, P, Zn) were determined in a composite sample of 4 brands of tea in tea bags (2x Lipton, 2x Lan Choo, 2x Bushells, 2x Harris). Tea was prepared by steeping tea bags in boiling deionised water for 5 minutes before analysis of the resultant liquid. Folate was determined from individual analysis of 2 of 2 brands of tea (3x Lipton and 1x Dilmah) purchased in TAS, NSW, NT and VIC in 2008 and in a composite sample of 6 types of tea (2 brewed from loose leaves from Billy and Lipton tea, 4 brewed from teabags from Twinning's, Tetley, Lipton and Dilmah tea) purchased in Sydney in March 2005. Caffeine was derived from a composite sample of tea purchased in Victoria in 2002 and prepared according to label instructions (mixture of loose tea and teabags). Heavy metals were determined in 19th and 22nd ATDS for tea from teabags. Fat and carbohydrates were imputed zero.
