Canned meat and vegetable soup purchased ready to eat. Soup does not require addition of any liquids and is heated gently before consumption. Meats used include beef and lamb, and vegetables may include mushroom, potato, carrot and pea. Other ingredients include water, maize starch, salt and spices.

Proximates, vitamins, most minerals and fatty acids were derived from a composite of 6 samples of ready to serve chunky-style main course canned soup (2x Heinz spring lamb, 1x Heinz beef with vegetables, 1x Heinz beef & mushroom, 2x Campbells Chunky beef) purchased from Adelaide supermarkets in 1991 (AGAL, 1991). Sodium is based on label data for products available in 2010.
