Nut, almond, without skin, blanched

Almond kernel briefly heated in boiling water to remove skin.

The majority of proximates, vitamins, minerals and fatty acids were derived from a composite of 6 samples of blanched almonds (2x Ducks, 2x Lucky and 2x Kernel brown) purchased from 3 supermarkets in SA in 1989 (Nuts & Legumes Program, 1990). Iodine, tocopherols were derived from a composite of 9 samples of blanched almonds (3x Sanitarium, 2x Mellow Yellow, 2x Naytura, 1x Lucky and 1x Ducks) purchased from 5 supermarkets in Melbourne in 2000 (Food Composition Program, 2000). Cholesterol and retinol were imputed zero. Data are supported by industry analyses (Sanitarium, 2008). Note low sum of proximates - data should be used with caution.
