Chiko roll, deep fried

Commercially prepared filling of vegetables with some meat wrapped in thin pastry, and deep fried. Ingredients include flour, cabbage, carrot, barley, meat (5% – usually mutton), celery, wheat, green beans and onion.

Proximates (except moisture and dietary fibre) and fatty acids were derived from a composite sample of 10 chicko rolls purchased from independent take away shops in Sydney (Wills et al. 1981). Na, K, Fe, Zn, Ca and Mg were from a secondary analysis by Wills et al. (1981) using the original samples. As, Cd, Cu, Hg, Pb, Sb, Se, Sn and Zn are from the 19th ATDS. Moisture, Cl, S, Se, F, ATOC, B6, pantothenate and biotin were derived from a composite of 8 samples of chicko rolls purchased from takeaway shops in Adelaide in 1993 (1993 cereal catch up program). Moisture, B1, B2, B3, RET, BCAR and VITC were derived from a composite of 10 samples of chicko rolls purchased from independent takeaway shops in Sydney in 1983 (Wills et al. 1985). Dietary fibre is imputed.
